"There are very few galleries where you can get a tax write off on your purchase.”

- Karen Shelly-Genthe

With the holidays coming up, CCAA's Exton Square Studio will be showcasing new work from its studio members. The gallery will also be expanding its hours. After Thanksgiving, the gallery is open each day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On November 15th, members of CCAA will receive a special shopping bonus. Everything in the galleries will be discounted 10 percent.

Now is a chance to consider the Exton Square Studio. Even in these difficult economic times, exposure is everything and artists should be looking for new ways to reach audiences. Moreover, the studio's nonprofit status enables us to offer tax incentives.

For artists, the comission is not only considerably lower than that of most galleries (35%) the commission portion of each sale is tax deductible. For shoppers, 35% of all art sales are deductible.

Still not convinced. Manager Karen Shelly-Genthe, offers this primer on the studio's history and purpose.

We opened in the Exton Square Mall three years ago, and people have been finding their way there ever since. We began our partnership with PREIT (Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust ) as a means of bringing art to the community.

As a non-profit. we offer free art classes, as well as gallery space to artists, and the best part, we afford the public the chance to purchase - a little flag waving here - 100 percent American!

Because of our non-profit status, all art purchased at the gallery affords the buyer a 35% tax deduction,” Shelly-Genther said, "There are very few galleries where you can get a tax write off on your purchase.”

For instance, if you calculate your purchase/donation on a $1500 painting, you are able to write off $525 on your taxes, in addition you also realize the benefit of supporting a non-profit while also purchasing quality work from a local artist. Especially in this economy, how good is that?
